FIR filed against Kanika Kapoor after being tested positive for coronavirus

After being tested positive for coronavirus, singer Kanika Kapoor has been booked by Lucknow Police under IPC section 188, 269 and 270.

The Lucknow Police has filed an FIR against singer Kanika Kapoor for alleged negligence of taking required directives to safeguard against the spread of deadly coronavirus. The singer was yesterday tested positive for the virus after she returned from London earlier this month. She even attended parties where political leaders and bureaucrats were also present.

Lucknow Commissioner of Police, Sujeet Pandey confirmed that an FIR was lodged at Sarojini Nagar police station under IPC section 188, 269, 270 on the complaint of Chief Medical Officer, Lucknow. He further hinted that two more FIRs may be registered against her for attending three different social gatherings after her return from London on March 11.

Another senior police officer said that IPC section 188 was for alleged disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant and section 269 for ‘negligent act’ likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life.

The state officials have confirmed that the singer attended three official gatherings and came in contact with several VIPs. BJP MP Dushyant Singh and his mother and former chief minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje are two prominent leaders among several others who came in contact with Kanika Kapoor during this period and have put themselves under self-isolation.  She also stayed in a luxurious 5-star hotel and also visited her relatives in Kanpur.

It is a known fact that all those who are traveling back from abroad have to mandatory take home quarantine as directed by the relevant authorities. Kanika Kapoor is facing backlash for not only neglecting the directives but also putting the lives of others in danger.

Kanika Kapoor herself took to Instagram yesterday to tell her fans about being tested positive for COVID-19. She wrote, “For the past 4 days I have had signs of flu, I got myself tested and it came positive for Covid-19. My family and I are in complete quarantine now and following medical advice on how to move forward. Contact mapping of people I have been in touch with is underway as well. I was scanned at the airport as per normal procedure 10days ago when I came back home, the symptoms have developed only 4 days ago. At this stage, I would like to urge you all to practice self isolation and get tested if you have the signs. I am feeling ok, like a normal flu and a mild fever, however, we need to be sensible citizens at this time and think of all around us. We can get through this without panic only if we listen to the experts and our local, state and central government directives. Wishing everyone good health.”
