Famous for his role as Kaalia in Sholay, Veteran actor Viju Khote passes away

Viju Khote who is well known for his work in the Hindi industry as well as the Marathi film industry, and who is famous for his role in Sholay as Kaalia and Robert in Andaz Apna Apna, passes away!

Veteran actor Viju Khote, who was well-known in the Hindi and Marathi film industry passes away at 77 due to multiple organ failure. The veteran actor breathed his last at his home in Mumbai. Viju Khote has been in the industry since 1964 and his popular roles included Robert in Andaz Apna Apna and Kaalia in Sholay.

His niece Bhavana Balsavar revealed the actor’s demise. she said, “He passed away today at 6.55 am peacefully in his sleep at the residence. He has been unwell since quite some time. He had multiple organ failure. He did not wish to die in the hospital so we had brought him home a few days ago. It is a great loss for all of us.” The last rites of the actor will take place at Chandan Wadi around 11 am.

He has worked in over 300 movies across industries. He also made quite an impression on his fans with his role in the 1993 television sitcom Zabaan Sambhalke. His other popular films include Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Ventilator. Not just movies he also did theatre and was a prominent artist in Marathi theatre over the years. The younger brother of Shubha Khote, he also starred in Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 3, where he was seen essaying a small yet memorable role as Shambhu Kaka.

Viju Khote is the son of acclaimed stage artist Nandu Khote, while actress Durga Khote also hails from the same family.
