Exclusive: Kumud Mishra & Ayesha Raza’s Untold Love Story

The lesser-known love story and inter-faith marriage of Bollywood actors Kumud Mishra and Ayesha Raza.

Actor Kumud Mishra is known for playing supporting roles in films like Patiala House, Rockstar, Filmistaan, Rustom, Airlift, Jolly LLB 2, Thappad, Tadap and Sooryavanshi. He is married to actress Ayesha Raza and they have a son named Kabir.

While we often see him playing important characters in widely popular films, very little is known about his personal life. He had an interfaith marriage with Ayesha Raza in 2008. Recently, during an interview for Lehren with senior journalist Bharathi S Pradhan, Kumud Mishra shared how their love story began and how they convinced their family for the inter-religion marriage. He said, “She is an actress. I was doing a play and she had watched it once. Then we were doing a play by Manav Kaul. That is how we met.”

Highlighting how the families were initially resistant to their marriage, Kumud said, “Of course, there was doubt from my side because my family hadn’t seen any inter-faith marriage. But I talked to them. There was so much love between me and Ayesha that everyone agreed to our marriage. We have a wonderful marriage. My wife is now everyone’s favourite. We have polluted our minds with moralities, rights and wrongs.”

On being asked if his wife converted after marriage, Kumud said, “No, she hasn’t converted. I am completely against conversion. She follows her faith, I follow my faith. There is no need for anyone to convert. But if someone wants to convert, that’s a personal choice. And they should have that freedom.”

This year, Kumud Mishra and Ayesha Raza completed 14 years of marriage. Ayesha took to her Instagram and wrote, “14 years today of being married to the world’s best human being. Kind, generous, open minded, funny, intelligent, exceptionally talented and oh so handsome! I’m absolutely the luckiest girl in the world.Happy anniversary Kumud Mishra! I don’t know what i would do without you!”

Kumud also told that his wife is a big critic of his work and admitted that she hasn’t seen a lot of his work. He revealed, “Ayesha is very critical when she watches the cinema. It doesn’t matter to her if I am a part of it. She may or may not like it. And I think it is a very beautiful trait of her. She doesn’t believe that my work will always be good. She hasn’t seen a lot of my work because she got any idea that it would be bad.”

They have named their only child, Kabir. Mrs Pradhan asked Kumud, “You have named your son Kabir. It is acceptable in both religious communities. Was it a conscious choice to name him Kabir?”

He replied, “Both communities refuse to accept too. It has always happened with Saint Kabir. It might have been a reason subconsciously. We thought about a lot of names and we both found Kabir the most suitable name for our son. People in my family thought that Kabir is a Muslim name while in Ayesha’s family, they thought it is a Hindu name. We find religion in names and trees, so we can’t really do anything about it.”

Kumud Mishra’s wife Ayesha Raza is known for playing motherly roles in films like Madaari, Befikre, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl.

On the work front, Kumud Mishra is currently garnering praises for his performance in Sony Liv’s Dr Arora. He is currently abroad shooting ‘Capsule Gill’ with Akshay Kumar.
