Exclusive: How Kabir Duhan Singh Got The Role Of Raavan In ‘Ramyug’

In an exclusive interview with Lehren, South superstar Kabir Duhan Singh reveals how he got the role of Raavan in Kunal Kohli's web-series 'Ramyug'.

South superstar Kabir Duhan Singh recently made his OTT debut with the mythological web-show ‘Ramyug’. Directed by Kunal Kohli, ‘Ramyug’ started streaming on MX Player for free from May 6 this year.

Kabir, who is known for playing an antagonist in his films plays the role of Raavan in the series. Kabir says, “It is my dream role. It is every actor’s dream to play Raavan. I always wanted a grand OTT and Bollywood debut. But Raavan is one such character that every actor around the world would like to play.”

During a recent interaction, we asked Kabir how he was offered this role. Kabir said, “I was shooting for my film titled Pahlwaan in Hyderabad. Jogi bhaisaab, who is a popular casting director and a good human being called me up and asked to meet me. When I went, he asked me to do a look test. These casting directors always maintain suspense and don’t disclose the details of the role. They don’t give out the details of the film or the filmmaker until things are clear. So, I gave my audition and meanwhile, I got another film and went to Chennai to shoot for it. Five days later, I get a call again from Jogi Bhai asking about my whereabouts. I told him that I am shooting for my Tamil film. So, when I came back to Mumbai, he asked me to meet Kunal Kohli. Till this point, I had no idea.”

He further told, “After I met Kunal sir, I came to know the details about the project. And when I came to know that I would be playing Raavan, I was on cloud nine. I couldn’t express my happiness at that time, but butterflies were dancing in my stomach.”

When asked about his experience working with Kunal Kohli, Kabir said, “When I met him for the first time, I had a picture in mind that he has always worked with Yash Raj Films and he is a very big director. He made Fanaa, Hum Tum. Hum Tum is one of my favorite films, especially its songs. When I met Kunal sir, I had already done 28-30 films in the south. I had earned a name for myself and was even awarded for my work. But still, I was a little nervous as I was meeting a big Bollywood director.”

“When I reached there, the associate director welcomed me. We sat there, Kunal sir came in, we had coffee together and Kunal sir told that he wanted me to play Raavan. He made me feel comfortable. I told him about my films and he said that he has seen my work,” he further told.

Kabir also told, “When I reached on the set, the first shot was mine. After seeing me act, he was very happy and confident that I will be able to play the role well. For 18 days, he didn’t say me anything. He gave me a free hand and trusted me. So, we shared a good bond. We chilled out together. In our free time, we used to have coffee, listen to music, play volleyball. I felt like home with him.”
