Director Satramm Ramani who previously directed Helmet has returned with another slice-of-life comedy. The upcoming film Double XL is helmed by film director Ramani. The movie starring Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi revolves around women’s body image issues and body shaming.
The upcoming movie Double XL pokes fun at boys who body shame. It talks about subjects like obsession with body weight and female body image issues. Double XL has a quirky take on bodyweight stereotypes that have been tormenting for a long time in our society. It is a story of two plus-size women who moved to UK from India and gorgeously flaunt their oversized body that is not usually accepted by society.
Satramm Ramani previous movie Helmet was a message on safe sex while the latest Double XL is about plus-size women. In an interview with Free Press Journal, the filmmaker spoke about if he has some connections with social issues. He said, “I believe, if I have to tell any kind of a story, it needs to be told in a weird way, I would say it’s high concept. Helmet was the only film that spoke about condoms out loud. I want to tell slightly interesting stories, perhaps which is why I am unique. If I have to make an action film tomorrow, I will make sure that it has some concept to it.”
He further added, “There have been films in the past that had social issues, not that those issues were big but they existed in the society like Damini, Gardish, etc. Before that, Raj Kapoor sahab made Satyam Shivam Sundaram and we are talking about body shaming in 2022. Back then, people used to talk about social issues but that time has come again I feel. Like how National Awards are created to award films that have made an impact in society, at least stirred a conversation.”
Double XL would be a slap on society that body shames plus-size women. The two leading ladies Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi are joined by Notebook fame Zaheer Iqbal and Mahat Raghavendra. Double XL is directed by Satramm Ramani and will release in theaters on 4th November.
