Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the Bollywood comedy-drama, “Khel Khel Mein” was released in the theatres on 15 August. The film initially opened up to positive reviews but struggled to make an impact at the box office. However, despite watching the film in the theatres, not many people are aware of the fact that the Bollywood comedy-drama is actually and in fact a “remake” of an Italian film.

Yes, you read that right! The Italian film Perfetti Sconosciuti (also known as Perfect Strangers) holds the Guinness World Record for the most official remakes. Originally released in 2016, Perfetti Sconosciuti featured an ensemble cast including Giuseppe Battiston and Anna Foglietta.
It has been remade 27 times across various countries: Greece, Spain, Turkey, India, France, South Korea, Hungary, Mexico, China (2018), and others in subsequent years, including Russia, Vietnam, Japan, and Egypt. The film continues to inspire adaptations, with recent remakes in Iceland and Denmark in 2023 as per IndiaTimes.
The film has been remade 28 times but not yet in English. The Weinstein Company initially planned an English remake but went bankrupt.
Indian Remakes Of The Italian Film
Perfetti Sconosciuti has previously been remade in India three times: first as Loudspeaker in Kannada, followed by 12th Man and 1001 Nunakal in Malayalam. Khel Khel Mein is the fourth Indian adaptation of the film.
Plot/Story Of The Film
Perfetti Sconosciuti‘s story/plot follows a group of seven longtime friends who gather for a dinner party and engage in a unique game: they must keep their phones unlocked and read all incoming messages, emails, and notifications aloud. The game leads to a series of surprising revelations that ultimately test and strain their relationships and friendships.
