According to styling secrets revealed by Instagram influencer Manisha Malik account, Guru Dutt’s old-age look was created using just makeup and tissue paper. While prosthetic makeup had been invented in the 1940s, it was not widely used at the time and he opted tissue paper to simulate wrinkles and texture on his face. This remarkable effect was achieved with the expertise of Dada Paranjpe, a renowned makeup artist of the time, who was specially brought in for this task, despite Baburao Pawaskar being the film’s regular makeup artist.
The result was a look so convincing that it was virtually indistinguishable from natural aging. Dutt’s performance, combined with the clever use of makeup, allowed him to embody the character fully, creating a timeless portrayal that remains impressive even by today’s standards.
