Can Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan Finally Break Bahubali 2’s Record?

Bahubali: The conclusion (2017) currently holds the record of biggest non-holiday opener, as it collected Rs. 41 crores on the first day.

Just yesterday on January 20, makers of Pathaan began its official advance bookings all over India, and the initial response is thunderous, to say the least. The film has already sold over 2 lakh seats within one day. Pathaan’s craze is at an all time high and it’s only increasing with each passing hour. In fact, as per early reports Pathaan advance booking for the first day has already crossed Rs.15 crores.

Now, after witnessing this earth shattering response from the audience to the film’s advance booking, Pathaan has a potential of breaking Bahubali: The Conclusion’s record of biggest non holiday opener which seemed like a fairly impossible task for Pathaan just a week ago. S.S. Rajamouli and Prabhas’s Bahubali 2’s Hindi dubbed version collected Rs. 41 crores on the first day of release and still holds the record for biggest non-holiday opener. (KGF Chapter 2, War and Thugs Of Hindostan are not included in the list as they were released on Holiday)

Pathaan marks Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screen after four years of hiatus.  The action thriller which also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in the lead, will release in cinemas on January 25. Helmed by Siddharth Anand, Pathaan is part of Yash Raj Film’s spy universe.

There is lot riding on the success of Pathaan for the makers as well as Bollywood. Because the success of Pathaan will help reduce at least some negative publicity around Hindi cinema and will give some confidence to other filmmakers who are also waiting for the release of their big budget films.
