Bollywood’s Must-Watch Underrated Horror Films

Well, we all know that Bollywood is not much appreciated for its horror movies. Bollywood is often looked down upon when it comes to creating content for horror movies.

The B-Town uses the same old formula of the old house, a possessed woman and many times the ghost is rather funny than scary due to odd costume choices. Bollywood horror films usually are made up of creaking doors, ugly-monsters and not so convincing acting even by some of the finest actors.

Keeping aside all those not-so-scary movies, Bollywood also has many underrated horror movies which are a must-watch. Check them out:

1920 (2008)

The movie consists of all the main masalas Bollywood uses to season any horror movie like a mysterious mansion, a spooky caretaker, a newlywed couple and many things that you usually see in Hindi horror movies. But the thing which sets apart this movie from other cliché movies is the sheer artistic fineness with which the film has been shot. It surely can’t be watched when home alone. Take that as a warning.

Raat (1992)

Raat directed by Ram Gopal Verma is one of the finest horror movies done right in Bollywood. The movie is a supernatural thriller that doesn’t go over the top with its content. The plot of the story revolves around a lady who gets possessed with the ghost of a kitten who gets killed. The movie will surely make you look at the cats with suspicion.

Ragini MMS (2011)

Ragini MMS is inspired by American horror movie Paranormal Activity and partly it is based on real-life incidents. Unlike its sequel starring Sunny Leone, this movie made the audience in the theatre gets jump scares and a few sleepless nights for sure.

13 B (2009)

13 B will send chills down your spine. The movie doesn’t depend entirely on the spooky backgrounds or music or any weird camera angles but the script of the story and the character keeps you hooked to it. After watching the film you will surely think twice before staying home alone again.

Phoonk (2007)

Directed by Ram Gopal Verma, Phoonk is amongst the most underrated horror movies in Bollywood. The plot of the movie revolves around black magic and superstitions. The fun fact about the movie is that RGV had promised Rs 5 Lakh to anyone who would watch the film alone in the theatre and not run away scared. Take that challenge yourself and watch the movie all by yourself, we can promise you a few sleepless nights, how about that?
