Actor Hrithik Roshan was presented with the opportunity to take on the lead role in Lagaan, a film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, but he chose to decline the offer. The movie Lagaan, featuring Aamir Khan, garnered numerous international accolades and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Academy Awards.
Ashutosh Gowarikar once more presented the film Swadesh to Hrithik Roshan; however, the actor was unable to grasp the concept of the project and subsequently declined the role. This part was later portrayed by actor Shahrukh Khan, who earned the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance.
Hrithik subsequently collaborated with Gowarikar on the films Jodhaa Akbar and it achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success, ranking as the fourth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2008.
In addition to these, Hrithik Roshan declined offers for films such as Bahubali, Dil Chahta Hai, Rang De Basanti, and the forthcoming Ramayana, which is an adaptation of Nitish Tiwari’s mythological epic. Reports indicate that Nitish extended an offer to Hrithik for the role of the antagonist Ravana; however, he chose to decline.
