‘Azaad’ Opening Weekend Box Office Collection: Abhishek Kapoor’s latest directorial, Azaad, featuring debutants Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani, struggled to attract audiences during its opening weekend. Despite the buzz surrounding the newcomers’ debut and the film’s ambitious action-adventure theme, its box office numbers have been underwhelming. Azaad opening weekend box office collection stood at a mere ₹4.25 crore, leaving much to be desired in terms of audience response.
‘Azaad‘ Opening Weekend Box Office Collection
The film opened with ₹1.50 crore on Friday, benefiting slightly from the Cinema Lovers Day ticket pricing. However, the momentum didn’t carry forward. On Saturday, collections dropped by approximately 13%, bringing in only ₹1.30 crore. The third day (Sunday) showed a slight uptick, with an estimated ₹1.45 crore. Despite this modest recovery, the total for the weekend remained disappointing at ₹4.25 crore.
The overall occupancy rates in the Hindi-speaking market reveal the film’s struggle. On its first day, morning shows recorded just 5.34% occupancy, which improved marginally in the evening but remained below expectations. The second day fared worse, with an average occupancy rate of 8.90%, and Sunday brought no significant turnaround.
High Expectations, But Limited Returns
Azaad, produced by RSVP Movies, was expected to deliver a compelling blend of historical drama and action, especially with the star-studded backing of Ajay Devgn and Raveena Tandon, relatives of the lead actors. However, the film failed to connect with critics and audiences alike. Abhishek Kapoor, known for launching talents like Sushant Singh Rajput (Kai Po Che!) and Sara Ali Khan (Kedarnath), couldn’t recreate the same magic with Aaman and Rasha.
With average word-of-mouth and limited audience engagement, Azaad faces an uphill battle to sustain itself at the box office in the coming weeks. While the film’s makers hoped for stronger support, its current trajectory suggests an underwhelming run.
