The Bollywood industry has come to a standstill owing to the nationwide lockdown because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The sudden lockdown has resulted in a huge loss of business for the entertainment industry. The reason that the showbiz has hit so bad is as ample of shoots have either been postponed or cancelled because of the COVID-19 scare. Not only that but the release of many films has also been pushed further as the cinema halls in the nation stay shut until the situation goes back to normalcy.
Keeping all the above things in mind, the filmmakers are considering releasing their films digitally instead of waiting for months to release them on the big screen. One such filmmaker is director Shoojit Sircar who seems open to the idea of releasing his upcoming venture ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ on an OTT platform.
‘Gulabo Sitabo’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan was slated to release on April 17, 2020. Speaking of the future of the film, Shoojit Sircar said, “As a filmmaker, I’d want to see my film open in the theatres, but the situation today is unlike anything anyone had ever experienced. So, I’m open to a digital release if need be, but we will take a decision after May 3.”
Talking about ‘Gulabo Sitabo’, the film is set in the backdrop of Lucknow and it follows the journey of two titular glove puppet characters- Gulabo and Sitabo. The film will depict the day-to-day struggle of the common man through local humor and songs.
Up next, Shoojit Sircar as one more much-awaited film in his kitty which is a biopic of Sardar Uddham Singh. The film will feature Vicky Kaushal in the lead. However, Shoojit said that he is not thinking about the film as it is currently in post-production stage, and will hit the big screen in January 2021.
