Amid the nationwide lockdown imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the makers of Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Dil Bechara had to skip the theatrical release of the film. The film is highly anticipated among the masses as it is Sushant’s last outing in Bollywood. The film is based on the book Fault In Our Stars written by John Green. The book is one of the most-loved books of John Green and a Hollywood film on the same was made in the year 2014.
The trailer of Dil Bechara released a couple of days back and the Mukesh Chhabra directorial garnered 4.3 million likes on YouTube in less than 24 hours. It thus beat the record held by Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame’s trailers.
The whole entertainment industry and the nation has been grieving over the sudden demise of Sushant Singh Rajput. The Chhichhore actor died of suicide on June 14, 2020, his dead body was found hanging at his residence in Mumbai. His absence is what makes Dil Bechara all the more special for the audiences.
However, Sushant’s untimely demise led to a heated debate on the social media platforms about the existence of nepotism and the powerful camps in the Bollywood industry. Many Bollywood biggies, especially Karan Johar was targeted by the netizens as everyone has a perception of him launching the star kids.
Meanwhile, not many people know that Dil Bechara has a Karan Johar connection as well. For the unversed, the dialogues of the film are written by Shashank Khaitan, who kick-started his journey in Bollywood as a writer with KJo’s Dharma Productions. With having no prior connections with the entertainment industry, Shashank’s first film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya was greenlighted by Karan Johar. The film featuring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt was a 2014 Box Office success.
Thus, Shashank Khaitan is among many directors launched by Dharma to have guarded to being a producer.
Coincidently, it was exactly 2 years ago in 2018 that Dil Bechara was officially announced. The film was originally titled Kizie Aur Manny. At that time, the Chief Creative Officer of Fox Studios, Rucha Pathak had said, “We’re especially happy that the script that we’ve been developing over the last few years is seeing the start of the shoot and the title itself has come so organically from the Indian characters in the film. Kizie and Manny are characters from the imagination of Suprotim Sengupta who wrote the screenplay and Shashank Khaitan who gave them wonderful voices through his dialogues. Mukesh now is going to bring them to life.”
Dil Bechara will be releasing on Disney+Hotstar on July 24. The film will be available to everyone for free on the OTT platform.
