Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel wrote on twitter, "The film Chhapak is a film made to raise awareness about heinous acid attack crime against women, make it tax-free in the state ... Go and watch with your family to support awareness."

Chhappak is led by Meghna Gulzar and releases from some sections in the midst of a storm of boycott calls. Following Deepika's visit to Jawaharlal Nehru University earlier this week to show solidarity by joining protesting students, calls to boycott the actor and her film have flooded on social media.

Nevertheless, there are also many fans, other Bollywood celebrities and political leaders who show their solidarity for Deepika and the film. On Wednesday, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar stated any artist can go anywhere and put forward his or her opinion.

Deepika Padukone's Chhapaak also was involved in a legal scuffle after Laxmi Agarwal's lawyer Aparna Bhat claimed that she had not been given due credit to the plot by the production house. She took the case to a Delhi court that asked the producers today to give proper credit to Bhat and cleared the movie for release.
