A.R. Rahman is one of the most popular singers and composers in the Hindi entertainment industry. He has sung many songs in his whole career. With a melodious voice, the singer-composer has always managed to garner love and appreciation from the audience. He is not only loved in India but also all over the world. Recently, he got a trophy for some of his brilliant renditions of soundtracks from th movies Ponniyin Selvan 1, and Cobra. He and his wife, Saira Banu, attend the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards show in Chennai.
The singer and his wife were called to collect the trophy, and Rahman said that he did not like to see his interviews repeated. He also told that his wife keeps playing them again and again because she really enjoys his voice. Then the host asks Banu to say something, until then, the musician asks and before she can say anything, the musician tells her, “Don’t speak in Hindi, speak in Tamil.”
But she apologises to everyone present there, as she was not very comfortable in Tamil and continues to speak in English.
As soon as the video hit the internet, there was a mixed reaction from the netizens. Some took Rahman’s side and said that it is fair that most of the audience is Tamil, so that’s why he said. However, some trolled the singer for forcing his wife not to speak in Hindi, some say if you don’t like the Hindi language, then why do you sing Hindi songs?
One user wrote, “Yes, English is acceptable as it is language of colonial masters. But another of our own Indian language Hindi bring feeling of lowly disgust ? This guy should be ashamed. Garnered all the fame & money from Indian Bollywood films and today discriminating over our languages.”
Another user wrote, You hate hindi speaking than why you singing in hindi …don’t do any song in hindi next time better for us ….we can’t expect from you Mr rahman sir jee…
One more user wrote, “Abe to Hindi me music Kyo diya , aur Gaana Kyo gaaya apni voice me. Madrasi me to Sirf Tamilnadu me famous Hoga lkn Hindi songs to pure India n world me famous hota hai. Hindi belt k karan hi tum famous ho. Wese bhi tumhe Arabian language me talk krna chahiye.”
Meanwhile, the singer’s daughter Khatija got married last year. The pictures of his daughter’s marriage went viral on social media, where fans poured immense love into the comment section.
