While Rohit Shetty is prolonging his cop universe fans are expecting a Gangs Of Wasseypur cinematic universe by Anurag Kashyap. Gangs of Wasseypur was one of the influential movies in Indian cinema. The film later described as a modern classic and iconic has now clocked 10 years in the industry. The director of the cult classic has revealed that he has no plans to make the third chapter as he is upset with the investors and producers. Read on to know the reason that is stopping Kashyap from creatic a cinematic universe.

Gangs of Wasseypur film is one of the best works of his filmmaking career. However, the distributors have considered the two-part crime drama loss-making flick. Viacom 18 was initially the distributor of the film series before they sold it to their own company Colors TV. Despite having stories for a sequel, Anurag Kashyap has claimed that he won’t make it as Viacom 18 regarded it a loss-making film.

For the unversed, the crime film series was shot as one single film of 321 minutes but was later split into two parts. The movie however failed to make its mark on the big screens but later won the hearts of the audience.

Anurag told Tanmay Bhatt, “There are many stories but I am angry about something there. For Viacom (distributors Viacom 18 Motion Pictures), it is still a loss-making film for Viacom. I used goodwill of my entire lifetime in that picture, but that holds no value. And we know how much the film has earned. But then they say we have not earned that money, Colors has earned it. But then who owns Colors? Viacom sold the film to their own company Colors and said Colors is earning the money. This is a case of insider trading.”

The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadha, Huma Qureshi, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, and Jaideep Ahlawat. The director feels the ensemble cast was paid lower remuneration. He said, “No actor in that film earned good money. Richa Chadha got 2 lakh, Huma Qureshi got 75,000, and someone else got 50,000. People got those kinds of money. You got a good movie in less money, but when it made money then you should pay people for it.”

Gangs of Wasseypur changed not just the landscape of Indian cinema but from writers to actors, the film made a star out of everyone who was part of the film. Directed by Anurag Kashyap part 1 of the film was released on June 22, 2012, while two months later in August the second part was premiered.
