Anupam Kher is currently shooting for Emergency which is being directed by Kangana Ranaut. The veteran actor will be essaying the role of Bharat Ratna awardee Jayaprakash Narayan. Anupam Kher opened up on working with Kangana Ranaut stating that she is a brilliant director.
Mr. Kher has worked with many well-known directors but presently he is taking in directions of Bollywood actress Kangana. He believes the Dhakad actress is a brilliant director. He too shared how both jammed on the sets of Emergency.
During a recent media interaction, with RJ Siddharth Kannan, Anupam Kher spoke about working with Kangana. He said: “I recently did a schedule with Kangana and she`s a brilliant director. She would whisper suggestions in my ear that would just leave me mesmerized.” To this Kangana replied via Instagram by sharing a video on her stories. She wrote, “Always so kind and gracious.”
Earlier Kangana Ranaut who is essaying the lead role of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi spoke on bringing Anupam Kher on board. She said, “J P Narayan was the most powerful human being to have happened after Mahatma Gandhi in politics in recent Indian history. The kind of influence he had on people was enormous. I wanted an actor who had the personality and calibre to match up to that larger-than-life persona of Lok Neta, J P Narayan.”
She continued, “Anupam ji with his stature, his acting skills, his overall persona fit into the role perfectly. I am privileged and humbled that he chose my script. I am nobody to choose him. He chose my script and I am honoured, to say the least.”
To this Anupam added, “Kangana’s interpretation of J P Narayan is fascinating. She believes and it’s also the truth that J P Narayan is a hero of the film not just because I am playing the character but also because that’s what he was. Her treatment of the character is like that of a hero.”
Emergency is Kangana’s second directorial film and first sole directional film. Earlier she co-directed the 2019 film ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’. Emergency is based on the emergency crisis that took place in the year 1975 when Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister of India. The period drama film is billed as the story of a watershed moment in the political history of India, “Emergency”.
The film is written and directed by Kangana Ranaut and produced by herself under the banners of her company called Manikarnika Films along with Renu Pitti. It also stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman and Shreyas Talpade in lead roles. The movie is in filming and the release date is still unknown.
