Blockbuster film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is now available on the OTT platform. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial film started streaming on Netflix on 26 April, two months after its theatrical release.
The blockbuster hit film had made close to Rs. 130 crore at the box office. Soon after the release, the fans showed their excitement on Twitter praising lead actress Alia Bhatt for her acting and the movie storyline.
In the film, Alia played the role of a prostitute turned social worker, who was called the moon of Kamathipura. And this film was made on a true story. Now after making a splash on the big screen, this film is also released on OTT. Netflix posted this information on its Twitter.
For the unversed, the film is based on the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai by S Hussain Zaidi. The Alia Bhatt film charts the journey of Gangubai, who eloped with her boyfriend to become a movie star. Her boyfriend betrayed her and pushed her into prostitution. Post this, she became the owner of a brothel in the Kamathipura area of Mumbai and is also known to have contacts with politicians and underworld criminals. She soon came to be known as the Mafia Queen of Bombay and wanted to improve the living conditions of the women of her community.
Besides Bhatt, the movie stars Ajay Devgn, Vijay Raaz, Jim Sarbh, Seema Pahwa, and Shantanu Maheshwari in pivotal roles. The film also premiered at the 72nd Berlin Film Festival prior to its theatrical release on February 25. The latest Bhansali directorial raked in around Rs 130 crore at the box office in its lifetime.
The film’s theatrical release was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the film made its blockbuster release on 25 February, and now it’s available on Netflix.
