Akshay Kumar Starrer Selfiee Heads For A Box Office Disaster After Shockingly Low First Weekend Collection

Selfiee continued to sink further down and minted only Rs. 10.25 crore on its opening weekend.

After a rather shockingly low start on first day, there was not much hope of improvement, and that’s exactly what happened. Selfiee continued to sink further down and minted only Rs. 10.25 crore on its opening weekend. The Selfiee box office collection started with around Rs 2.60 crore, earned Rs 3.75 crore on its second day and has now grossed Rs 3.90 crore on its third day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

This is a terribly low number especially for a film starring A list actor like Akshay Kumar and it is also his worst first weekend collection over a decade. And looking at such poor opening weekend, the film is heading for a disaster at the box-office. It seems the film’s lifetime box office will close under Rs. 30 crores.

Released in theatres on February 24, the film is a remake of the Malayalam drama Driving License, which starred Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles, and was a huge box office hit.

Directed by Raj Mehta, Selfiee follows a story of Bollywood superstar Vijay Kumar (Akshay Kumar) who needs to get a new driver’s license and an RTO officer (Emraan Hashmi) who is his huge fan. However, a misunderstanding leads to a war of words between the two, eventually escalating into a feud which is played out in front of the entire country.
