There were speculations hovering over Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ to skip the theatrical release and now a few sources have confirmed the news. The film will release in June on an OTT platform. Read below to know more.

Amid the nationwide lockdown because of the novel coronavirus pandemic the Bollywood industry has come to a standstill. With theatres being shut to combat the spread of the virus, the release dates of many films have gotten postponed. The situation has forced the filmmakers to consider releasing their films on OTT platforms. As many people have been advised to stay at home, OTT platforms have become a major source of entertainment. Given the context, many makers are gearing to skip the theatrical release and consider an OTT platform.

Earlier there were speculations that Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer Laxxmi Bomb will release on the OTT platform. Well, the rumors have turned out to be true. Owing to the on-going COVD-19 pandemic the film will be released on Disney + Plus Hotstar.

A source close to the development revealed, “Akshay Kumar, Vijay Singh (Fox Star Studios) and Tusshar Kapoor (Producer) along with the officials of Disney+Hotstar have been interacting over video calls for the last 3 weeks, and it was only on a meeting on the evening of May 4 that everyone reached a common ground to get the film to release directly on the OTT platform.”

The makers of Laxmmi Bomb have given a green signal to the plan of skipping the theatrical release as the theatres across the nation will remain shut till September 2020. So everyone reached a common ground after 3 weeks of meetings and discussions to have the film release directly on the OTT platform. The makers are yet to announce the release date, however, there are speculations that it will release in June.

The source also revealed that the makers have cracked a huge deal with Star Network and Fox Star Studios by negotiating the satellite and digital rights. While an official confirmation is still awaited, we hear that this will be among the first major films to arrive directly on OTT. “A lot of films will follow suit, it’s just a matter of time before things are made official.”

The horror-comedy was slated to release on May 22, 2020.
