Akshay Kumar Returns To Extending Comedy Franchise After Flops In A Row?

After back-to-back disasters, Akshay Kumar is allegedly returning to the fun era of his comedy movies

Akshay Kumar is having a rough ride at the box office with every consecutive film failing to entertain the audience. He is the Khiladi Kumar in Bollywood in terms of being an action hero and minting 3-4 movies a year. But not a Khidali right now in delivering great films. Looks like he will be returning to his favourite genre comedy, and the time when his movies worked.

Akshay Kumar’s almost comedy movies such as Hera Pheri, Welcome, and Awara Pagal Deewana left the audience laughing with stomach aches. After back-to-back disasters, he will be returning to the fun era. These days he is recognized as one of the busiest actors in Bollywood releasing movies every third or the fourth month.

This year Akshay had five releases and all of them ended up being  major box-office failures. Namely, Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan & the recent release Ram Setu all didn’t perform well at the box office. Amid straight flops, Mr. Kumar is allegedly heading back to the comedy genre with the hope of box office success. According to Pinkvilla reports, Akshay is all set to extend his iconic comedy franchises including Hera Pheri, Awara Paagal Deewana & Welcome produced by Firoz Nadiadwala.

A source close to the development revealed, “Over the years, Akshay Kumar and comedy have proved to be a lethal combo, and the actor has delivered few of the most iconic characters for Hindi cinema in this space, which have formed a part of pop culture too. 3 of his many loved characters are Raju from Hera Pheri, Guru Gulab Khatri from Awara Paagal Deewana, and Rajiv from Welcome. Come 2023, and he will be revisiting these characters one after the other with Hera Pheri 3, Awara Paagal Deewana 2, and Welcome 3.”

The source further added,  “Akshay and Firoz have had multiple meetings over the last month, to get everything in place for these projects. The idea is to revive the three franchises and bring back the Hindi cinema audience in a big way. The three films fit the bill of post covid content, to create genuine excitement in the audience. The talks are on with 3 top directors (we will bring more on this soon), and we expect an official announcement on one of the three projects in the next few months.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, he has a few upcoming movies in the pipeline. He has OMG – Oh My God 2, Selfiee, Jolly LLB 3, Gorkha, Capsule Gill, bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Soorarai Pottru remake in the kitty.
