Aishwarya Rai Reacts To “Bollywood Flop Hua To Tamil Industry Mein Bhaag Gayi”

During the press meet of Tamil film "PS 2", Aishwarya Rai was questioned if she deliberately 'ran' towards the South film industry while Bollywood was going through a rough phase.

Aishwarya Rai is gearing up for the release of her Tamil film “Ponniyin Selvan 2”. It is the sequel to Mani Ratnam’s period drama film that was released in 2022. It features Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karti, Sobhita Dhulipala and Trisha Krishnan. The music of PS 2 is given by AR Rahman. A press conference was held in Mumbai on Tuesday where Mani Ratnam, AR Rahman and the entire cast of the film interacted with the media.

A journalist asked Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, “Today, South is winning over Bollywood. South films are box office hits and when Bollywood remakes those south films, they become flops. Were you aware of this trend already that you ran towards south?”

To this, Aishwarya gracefully replied, “Ran away? Why is there a question of running away? I have always looked at it as Indian cinema since the beginning. I don’t support this viewpoint ki yahan kaam nahi hai to vahaan jayenge, vaahan kaam nahi hai to yahaan aayenge. It’s nothing like that. An artist just goes behind the art where they get the opportunity to shine, to learn, to grow and to be able to do fabulous work. It naturally draws you. And even if it sounds repetitive and it bores you, the fact is that I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with Mani Garu in my first film. Why wouldn’t I say yes? Thereafter, I have also got to work with wonderful directors like Rajiv Menon, Shankar Sir. You have seen the movies that I have chosen to do with Rahman sir’s music in all of them. I mean, wow! Why wouldn’t I happily say yes to these incredible combinations of talent where I got to start my career, to grow and to learn.”

“It is not about running here and there. I have always been very clear in my choices that I don’t follow these systems and thought processes. That’s never been my journey and reasons for my choices,” she added.

Aishwarya’s last Bollywood film was “Fanney Khan” which was released in 2018 and tanked at the box office.
