After Laal Singh Chaddha’s Failure, R Madhavan Says, “I Don’t Do Remakes”

Actor R Madhavan, who has worked with Aamir Khan in 3 Idiots and Rang De Basanti, says that he doesn't do remakes.

Aamir Khan’s latest film Laal Singh Chaddha has disappointed the fans. People were already furious over Aamir Khan’s 7-year-old remark where he called India an ‘intolerant nation’. After Laal Singh Chaddha hit the theatres, comparisons were made with the original film Forrest Gump and seems like Aamir has failed to create magic. The remake culture is already very upsetting and in recent times, Bollywood has been offering a lot of remakes. As Laal Singh Chaddha tanked at the box office, Aamir’s 3 Idiots co-star R Madhavan said, “I don’t do remakes.”

R Madhavan interacted with the media at the teaser launch of hi8s upcoming Hindi movie Dhokha- Round D Corner. Addressing the remake culture and the recent failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, actor R Madhavan said, “I don’t remake my films. Even they wanted me to do 3 Idiots remake in Tamil, I didn’t do it because it gets difficult for me. As an actor when I do a scene for the first time, it itself is very difficult to give it your life and soul and therefore, recreating the same is impossible for me. I don’t think I’ll do remakes of anybody’s film, not even mine because comparisons happen and the whole fun of doing a film goes away. I don’t want to do remakes.”

“I think right now everybody is sceptical about what to do because we are hoping that the content hits home and gets the audience coming back to the theatres in a big way. We are just keeping our fingers crossed,” he added.

R Madhavan is an accomplished actor in Hindi and Tamil cinema. Amongst the Hindi-speaking fans, R Madhavan is known for his films like Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, Rang De Basanti, 3 Idiots and Tanu Weds Manu. He was recently seen in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. Apart from featuring as the lead actor, R Madhavan also wrote, directed and produced this film. It was released in Tamil, Hindi and English languages.

Meanwhile, R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi starrer Tamil film Vikram Vedha is being remade in Hindi. While Saif Ali Khan steps into R Madhavan’s shoes to play the cop, Hrithik is playing the antagonist.
