After Aishwarya Rai, Mani Ratnam To Work With Shah Rukh Khan? Here’s What He Said

PS-1 director Mani Ratnam opens up on the possibility of collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan says, "You should ask Shah Rukh. I should have a script ready for him".

South filmmaker and director Mani Ratnam is currently gearing up for his much-anticipated film Ponniyin Selvan. While recently during the promotions of his film PS-1 the director opened up about the possibility of working with Shah Rukh Khan. Mani stated that he needs a good script to work with Shah Rukh again, for the unversed, the two earlier collaborated in 1998 for their film, Dil Se which also starred Preity Zinta and Manisha Koirala.

Mani Ratnam Reveals When He Will Work With Shah Rukh Khan

When asked about the possibility of reuniting with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh, Mani Ratnam told Pinkvilla that he needs to make the script ready to work with the actor, Mani said, “You should ask Shah Rukh. I should have a script ready for him, that’s when I can go to him. So it’s all a function of a script. We just met each other in a function, that’s all. Like I am telling you it’s driven by an idea of a script. Once you have an idea for which Shah Rukh will be right, then I’ll go and ask him.”

Mani Ratnam On His Film Ponniyin Selvan

Talking about his upcoming magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, Mani Ratnam said, “I think for me it’s my dream. It’s a film that I have always dreamt of, even before I got into films. When the first time I was reading the book, I looked at it as a big screen. I didn’t think that I would make it, but everything in it looked like it was meant for cinema.”

The filmmaker further added, “It has all the elements – it has adventure, it has intrigue, it has characters which are brilliant, and it has all the fun of a Alexandre Dumas film or a story. So I think it’s a dream that I was very happy to make and enjoyed every bit of it.”

Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam’s film, Ponniyin Selvan: I is an epic period action pan-India film to be released in multiple languages including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. The movie is set for worldwide release on September 30. Helmed by Mani Ratnam the film is produced under the banners of Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.

The magnum opus stars Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai in double roles as Nandini and the princess of Pazhuvoor. Apart from Aishwarya the film also stars Cobra actor Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Karthi among many other actors in the film.
