Anu Aggarwal, who made a splash with her role in the 1990 blockbuster Aashiqui, has finally spoken out about persistent rumors concerning her relationship with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt.
The romantic drama, helmed by Bhatt, became a massive hit, with Anu’s portrayal of a tender young woman capturing the audience’s hearts. The film’s success was boosted by its unforgettable music and Anu’s standout performance opposite Rahul Roy.
With her rise to fame at just 22, Anu Aggarwal became the subject of rumors connecting her romantically to Mahesh Bhatt, who was already twice married at that time. Despite the speculation, Anu decided to remain quiet, concentrating instead on her career and personal development.
In a recent interview with Bollywoodbubble, Anu Aggarwal addressed the long-standing rumors for the first time in 34 years. She revealed that while working on Aashiqui, she was living alone in Mumbai, separated from her family. As she transitioned from modeling to acting, Anu quickly earned a reputation for her proficiency in delivering scenes in a single take, which led Mahesh Bhatt to nickname her the ‘one-take artist.’
This skill, however, was not universally appreciated, and Anu suspects it may have sparked jealousy among her peers, contributing to the spread of false rumors about her relationship with the director.
Following the success of Aashiqui, Anu Aggarwal appeared in The Cloud Door, an Indo-German short film directed by renowned filmmaker Mani Kaul. The film, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, featured a controversial topless scene not included in the original script.
Initially, Anu declined to participate in the scene, but after the film was accepted into Cannes, the director persuaded her, arguing that the provocative scene was crucial for the film’s success at the festival. Despite her reservations, Anu ultimately agreed to film the scene.
