Aamir Khan Takes Break From Acting In 35 Years Of Career; Shares Major Update On Next Project ‘Champions’

At a recent event in Delhi, Aamir Khan opted for salt and pepper look and spoke of taking a break from acting for the first time

After Laal Singh Chaddha’s failure Aamir Khan made his media interaction in the capital of the nation. He attended his childhood friend’s event in Delhi where he spoke about Champions and taking a break from acting among other topics. During the event, the 57 years old actor opened up upon taking the first break in his 35 years of an acting career.

Aamir Khan who debuted in 1988 in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak has delivered many movies since then as an actor. He also became a producer with time producing films under his company Aamir Khan Productions. However, now the actor is willing to take a break from acting but will continue to produce movies. His next project is Champions in which he was supposed to act but now Khan has stepped down from headlining the movie.

At the event, organized by his childhood friend, held in Delhi, Aamir addressed his career plans. He said, “When I am doing a film as an actor, I get so lost in that that nothing else happens in my life. I was supposed to do a film after Laal Singh Chaddha called Champions. It’s a wonderful script, a beautiful story, and it’s a very heartwarming and lovely film. But I feel that I want to take a break, be with my family, with my mom, my kids.”

He further added, “I feel I have been working for 35 years and I have single-mindedly been focused on my work. I feel that it’s not fair to people who are close to me. This is the time I feel I have to take some time off to be with them, and actually experience life in a different way. I am looking forward to the next year, year-and-a-half in which I am not working as an actor.”

Aamir turned down to act in Champions but he will continue to produce the movie. Talking about the same, he said, “I’ll be working as a producer, so I’ll be producing Champions. I will be approaching other actors now to do the role that I was hoping to do. Hopefully, that will go well. I’m in that stage in life where I’d like to enjoy my relationships at this point of time. That’s the best way I can put it.”

Champions is the official remake of the Spanish film Campeones. Campeones is a sports comedy-drama set against the backdrop of basketball. The story is of an arrogant coach who is forced to do community service and train a team with developmental disabilities. The Indian version titled Champions will be co-produced by Aamir Khan Productions along with Sony Pictures International Productions, India, and 200NotOut Productions.
