Bollywood filmmakers inspired by the amazing real-life stories continue in 2020 with these upcoming movies. Read below

We saw history preserved with Bollywood biopics like Mangal Pandey: The Rising on the big screen, and even saw the stories of incredible legends like in Dangal, with several more on the list. Bollywood’s biopic and historical drama got strong in 2019 with hit movies like Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Super 30 and Saand Ki Aankh. There is no break in play here because on the big screen we have plenty more true stories waiting to be relived. Here are the Bollywood biopics most anticipated for release in 2020:

1.Gunjan Saxena

Newbie Janhvi Kapoor who is already a sensation among youth is all set to be the first lady Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena to appear in her first biopic. She and fellow pilot Srividya Rajan ventured into a war zone even before IAF allowed female fighter pilots to rescue injured soldiers from Kargil in 1999. Produced under Dharma Productions by Karan Johar, this inspirational narrative is directed by newcomer and youngster Sharan Sharma and the movie also features Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi. The film is scheduled to be released on 13 March 2020 at theatres.

2. ‘83

One of Bollywood’s most awaited upcoming biopics, this film will integrate India’s two major fandoms of India that are Bollywood, and cricket. This tells us the epic story of India’s remarkable 1983 Cricket World Cup win, with Ranveer Singh playing the role of star cricketer Kapil Dev ‘83 is directed by Kabir Khan, Pankaj Tripathi will play team manager PR Man Singh and as Kapil Dev’s wife you will see Deepika Padukone playing the role of Romi Dev.

Other characters such as Jiiva as K. Srikkanth, Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Jatin Sarna as Yashpal Sharma, Chirag Patil as Sandeep Patil, Dinker Sharma as Kirti Azad and Nishant Dahiya as Roger Binny, Harrdy Sandhu as Madan Lal, Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani, Ammy Virk as Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Dhairya Karwa as Ravi Shashtri Addinath, M Kothare as Dilip Vengsarkar, and R Badree as Sunil Valson.

3. Thalaivi

Late Dr. J. Jayalalitha was a heroic politician and movie star, who also served as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister. The story is about her life is set to hit the cinema house with Kangana Ranaut to depict the best of her character. The biographical trilingual film is directed by A. L. Vijay and plays the role of M. Arvind Swami. With G. Ramachandran. The film is to be released separately in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi on 26th June 2020. 4. Sardar Udham Singh

The film, directed by Shoojit Sircar, is based on life freedom fighter Udham Singh who will be played by Vicky Kaushal. After the horrific 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre at Amritsar, the nationalist freedom fighter retaliated conscientiously assassinating Michael O’Dwyer, Punjab’s former lieutenant governor. Singh was eventually sentenced on 31 July 1940 and hanged to death. The first collaboration between Kaushal and Sircar is set to be released in cinemas on 2 October 2020.

5. Prithviraj

Prithviraj Chauhan’s fearlessness is a noteworthy symbol of Indian culture. During the 12th century, the legendary Rajput ruled over Ajmer and Delhi. The popular actor Akshay Kumar is bringing on his role in a brand new biopic, with Manushi Chhillar portraying his wife Sanyukta also known as Sanyogita. The film is directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and produced by Yash Raj Films starring in the cast Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood also. It is set to be released on Diwali. 14th November 2020.

6. Maidaan

Maidaan is directed by Badhaai Ho fame Amit Sharma, Ajay Devgn is set to play the role of Syed Abdul Rahim, recognized as the architect of modern Indian football. Being the Indian football team’s coach, he took them to the victory in 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta and reaches the 1956 Melbourne Olympic semi-finals. The movie also points to the debut of the national award winner and south sensation Keerthy Suresh as she plays the wife of the coach. The film will hit the screens on November 27, 2020.

7. Saina

Under the T-Series banner by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, this biopic is based on the top Badminton player Saina Nehwal. Manav Kaul has joined the cast as Pullela Gopichand, a mentor of Nehwal. Directed by Amole Gupte and starring Parineeti Chopra as Saina Nehwal, the movie’s release date is still to be announced

8. Shershaah

Upcoming biographical war drama -Shershaah is the story of a real-life hero, Captain Vikram Batra. The actor Sidharth Malhotra will be an army officer and looks every bit impressive also we can anticipate some great war sequences in the movie. A direction under south filmmaker Vishnu Varadhan and produced by Dharma Productions by Karan Johar, this year’s Shershaah is scheduled to hit screens on July 3.

9. Gangubai Kathiawadi

A biopic is about the life of Gangubai Kothewali who was a powerful woman in the 60s. Alia Bhatt to depict the role of the mafia queen Gangubai. Written, directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is set to release on 11 September 2020.
