Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently got candid about late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and his film choices in his interaction with a news portal. The Kia Po Che actor has been making it into the headlines ever since his demise and there are many controversies and speculations about the same. Sushant died of suicide on June 14, 2020, and his untimely exit sent shockwaves across the nation.

Post Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, a lot of things have come into the light, mainly the nepotism issue. Director Anurag Kashyap recalled how Sushant dropped his films to be a part of Yash Raj Films and Dharma Productions’ venture.

In his conversation, Anurag revealed that he had offered Sushant Singh Rajput a role in his production titled Hasee Toh Phasee alongside actress Parineeti Chopra. However, since Parineeti was handled by Yash Raj Films, the actor spoke to them and instead signed a three-film deal with them starting with the 2013 film Shuddh Desi Romance.

According to Anurag Kashyap, Sushant did so because he sought validation from the Yash Raj Films. The director of Sushant’s last outing Dil Bechara, Mukesh Chhabra used to work from Anurag’s office and that is how they first met and Anurag told him that if he had known that Sushant hailed from Bihar, he would have offered him a role in his film.

Anurag was the one who recommended Sushant’s name to Kai Po Che director Abhishek Kapoor as the latter wanted a television star for the film.

Later on, Mukesh Chhabra apparently told Sushant that Anurag had written a script and wants an actor who is based out of Uttar Pradesh. However, he did not agree and went ahead to sign Drive because he was very eager to work with Dharma Productions.

Anurag Kashyap then spilled more beans and said that he never got a call back from Sushant after he became famous with MS Dhoni. Kashyap indeed held no grudges and went on to make Mukkabaaz.

Anurag Kashyap then concluded by saying that he understands that outsiders seek validation from biggies of the industry and that is why Sushant Singh Rajput did the films he eventually did.
